Investing in the Community
The Port of Dover recognises the impact that the Port has on the local community (good and bad) and is committed to a full and engaged relationship with its community, consistent with the restrictions placed upon it by trust port status.
Through its dedicated community policing and crime prevention remit, the Port of Dover Police Neighbourhood Policing Unit (NPU) works with and for the community on a variety of initiatives to reduce crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour.
The Port of Dover supports stakeholders by assisting and facilitating the organisation of events on the Port's estate.
Dover’s award-winning seafront and historic harbour are a prime location for major local events and celebrations. As land owner, the Port has been determined for the community to have events to enjoy that celebrate Dover’s maritime heritage and bring the community together.
Port of Dover Community Regatta
The Port of Dover hosts an annual community fun day on Dover seafront – the Port of Dover Community Regatta. Facilitated by the Port with the support of Dover District Community Safety Partnership and Dover Sea Sports Centre, the event brings thousands of people together.
Dover Marina Open Day
Dover Marina Open Day is an annual event that offers the community an opportunity to try their hand at sailing and yachting, see motor boat and other displays and explore the new and used boat sales. The open day forms part of the Port of Dover’s participation in the Royal Yachting Association’s (RYA) Active Marina Programme, which offers additional training, cruising and social opportunities throughout the year and in association with the British Marine Federation ‘On the water’ campaign. The event is run in collaboration with the Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club (RCPYC) as part of the Port’s commitment to developing a thriving sailing community at the Port and a vibrant waterfront that supports the local economy.
The cruise terminals also play their part in attracting people to Dover as they continue to develop their role as a popular venue for a wide range of conferences and exhibitions, especially those that support the community.
The Port of Dover works to ensure that its assets are maintained and developed in a way that mitigates the negative effects of the Port’s operation on the community, preserves local heritage whilst bringing new life and purpose to historic assets and positively promotes Dover as a great place to live, work and visit.
